| The
first stone was laid by Giulio II on the 18th of April 1506. It was consecrated
on the 18th of November 1626 by Pope Urbano VIII. Michelangelo built the
marvellous dome. The large portico around the Piazza is the work of Bernini
(1657-1667). |

been reduced to such perfection that nature itself has not been able to

Archaeological site which, was already in existence in 500 B.C. It is
